Traveling Experiences As A Child vs A Young Adult

Traveling is something that is on almost everyone’s bucket list. Whether the location is an hour away or 19 hours away, having a a chance to get away from everyday life and see something new is the goal.

Like most people, I’ve done my fair share of traveling as well which began on family trips. One of the first places I’ve been to when I was younger was Humacao, Puerto Rico. Such a beautiful island full of amazing views, people, and not to mention food!

Having family there is a huge advantage since they are able to take me to their favorite spots as well as any new places that not many people know about. For example, when I last traveled to Humacao, my aunt took me and my family to a beach that wasn’t too bombarded with tourists. It was one of the best sceneries I’ve seen at a beach in a long time.

Afterwards, we went to a small cabana that served the best empanadas and mixed drinks that Puerto Rico can offer. Boy do I wish to go back to this day to enjoy this one more time!

As if the food wasn’t enough, this cabana was near the edge of the mountain it sat on. Sounds pretty scary right? But behind the seating area was an amazing view that even a cloudy day couldn’t effect it’s beauty. Puerto Rico certainly is a one of a kind island.

Another overseas location I’ve been on was the Dominican Republic. Again, having family at locations like this is such a great bonus to explore more. This trip was when I was around 6-7 years old so the memories are quite vague but being able to say that I’ve been there is still awesome.

A lot of the traveling I do is mainly family oriented. For example, the last two family trips I had were to Ohio and Staten Island where we stayed with family members. Now that I’m older, this has slowly changed. I still manage to travel, not as far as Puerto Rico, but now with my close friends.

Traveling with family as opposed to traveling with friends are two totally different experiences. Family trips have some kind of set boundaries as you have to respect because you’re with the people that will always be in your life. You are more limited as to what you do especially if everything has to be done together as a unit. Trips with close friends are more about living life and exploring more than you first expected. It’s more about spontaneity especially if you have crazy friends like mine.

I’ve been to many different events with my friends that have involved both close and far travels. One of the trips we’ve taken that have been within the state of Connecticut was when we went camping for the first time. Absolutely stunning views and such a peaceful environment was what made us never want to come back to out normal lives. The highlight of that trip was definitely when we went kayaking. This was one of the moments where I really found beauty in Mother Nature and felt so much at ease.

The farthest location I’ve traveled with my friends was when we went to New York for a weekend for two rave events. This was a much different experience for me mainly because I was gone from home a little longer than usual while staying in a different state.

Distance of a trip doesn’t matter. As long as you’re with the right people anywhere you go with them is one to remember.

My next traveling venture? Road trip to Florida for a week. This will be the ultimate traveling trip for me by far because we will be passing by states we’ve never been in not to mention see things we normally won’t be able to here in Connecticut. A road trip has always been on my bucket list as well as for my friends so this will be such an amazing start to the new year.

Traveling as you get older is without a doubt a scary thing. You won’t always have the comfort of family and security that they give. Having to venture out on your own is something that I think we all have to go through. I think I’m now at that point of my life where these facts are applying to me and though I’m scared, I’m ready to face it head on. Florida here I come!
